- Use a reliable and fast internet connection
- Restart the Discord app
- Clear the cache for your Discord app, if on iOS or Android
- Uninstall and reinstall the Discord app
- Ensure that your VPN supports User Datagram Protocol (UDP), as Discord cannot function without it
- Disable your Firewall or Antivirus
- Reset your router
If you go through all of these, you’re likely to find that one of them works. However, if none of them do, the issue might be from Discord’s servers. If that’s the case, you’ll simply need to wait for them to fix things on their end of affairs!
Discord connection issues and fixes
Like I said before, Discord has its fair share of issues related to its connectivity. This is almost a certainty for any big app that heavily relies on servers. Even Google services have their issues!
Here are some of the common Discord connection issues you’re likely to face with the app.
Discord keeps disconnecting
If you use Discord and deal with it frequently disconnecting, it can be a major pain in the butt. Fortunately, there are a lot of tips you can follow to reduce how frequently you’ll have to deal with these disconnects occurring. No one wants to suddenly drop out of the voice chat, you know.
Try out some of these tips to stop your Discord from disconnecting:
- Make sure you’re connected to a fast and stable data connection. When the servers are operational, it’s up to your computer or mobile device to maintain its communication with those servers. Using a great data connection ensures this. Wi-Fi might be preferable.
- Make sure that Discord servers are up and running. If there’s any kind of problem with these servers, you might experience these frequent disconnects. You can use this website to check the status of Discord servers and rule that out as the origin of the problems you’re experiencing.
- Close any other apps that may be hogging bandwidth in the background. This might be any apps that are updating or downloads that are running in the background.
Discord not connecting to voice
I connect to voice channels all the time when I play video games with my pals. It gives us a way to communicate with one another even if we’re miles away because sometimes the in-game chat doesn’t cut it (or worse, the game doesn’t even have voice chat!).
I’ve faced the Discord No Route error a lot when jumping into a voice chat that my friends have set up. It used to seriously stress me out, but now I know how to get past it.
It is similar to the RTC connection error because it’s all about your device struggling to communicate with Discord servers. Fortunately, fixing the issue is similarly easy to the other problem.
- Are you trying to use Discord from work or school? If the network administrator has blocked it, you won’t be able to, and you’ll probably encounter this error and many others.
- A firewall or antivirus program might be blacklisting Discord and preventing it from accessing the internet.
- The voice region might be on another continent. In some cases, your device will not be able to communicate on it. If possible, ask the host to switch to another voice region!
Discord connecting loop mobile
Suppose you’re using Discord on mobile, and you have to stare at Discord connecting over and over again. In that case, you’re apparently stuck in a loop because something is making it so that Discord won’t connect.
You’ll find this issue very easy to fix if you know what to do. If you’re certain that you’re on a good internet connection, just try to change the Discord server you’re on. That tends to be all you need to do to break out of a Discord connecting loop.

How to change the server on Discord?
If your Discord won’t connect, I recommend trying to change the server region you’re on. This can sometimes be the key if the issue is related to the specific server you’re on. After all, if it is, all the fixes you try won’t work until the folks at Discord solve the problem.
Change Discord server on PC or Mac
Doing this is pretty simple. If you’re on a computer, follow these steps:
- Open the server you’re having issues connecting to.
- Click the arrow at the top left of the screen near the channel list.
- Select “Server Settings.”
- There will be a tab called “Overview.” Tap “Change” beside the Server Region entry.
- Choose another location from the list!
Change Discord server on Android or iPhone
- Open the Discord app.
- Open the server that you have the Discord No Route issue with.
- Select the three horizontal lines at the top-left to open the menu.
- Tap the three vertical dots at the top-right corner of the sidebar.
- Press “Settings.”
- This takes you to the Server Settings page. Click on Overview here.
- You will be able to see Server Region, which shows which one you’re currently on. Tap on it to change to another.
