How to Delete Certain Emojis on Android?

Ana, July 12, 2021July 12, 2021

The emoji is one thing that has revolutionized how we communicate with one another. It seemed that we knew them as smileys up to a certain time, but the word emoji somehow managed to usurp that place and become the standard term. Here’s a fun fact, despite the fact it seems like emoji derives from ’emotion’, it doesn’t! It is a Japanese word completely isolated from English!

The history of the emoji dates back to the late 90s, but they really blew up as the 2000s began to round off to a close. That was when Android and iOS smartphones really began to take hold in daily lives. As a result, a variety of emojis was available right at everyone’s fingertips.

Of course, with over 3,500 emoji available to us, it is normal that we will have favorites. There will be those emoji that you love to use every day, in every conversation, with pretty much anyone. At the same time, though, there are bound to be some emojis that you hate to see for whatever reason. It would be great if there was some way to delete these ones, so you’d never need to see them again. That would be nice.

Well, if you’re looking for how to delete certain emojis on Android, then I think this article will have the answers that you may be looking for. If you want to know how to turn off emojis on Android, then all you have to do is keep reading! You’ll be able to remove emoji keyboard Android in just a few steps!

Is It Possible to Delete Select Emojis from Android?

Well, as much as certain emojis might be getting on your nerves, if you’re looking for how to remove emoji from Android phone completely, then you may be out of luck. There is no way to altogether remove any specific emoji from the device. It would be a very nice feature to have, but unfortunately, if you’re looking to get rid of Android emojis, there’s no way to get that done.

However, depending on the keyboard you’re using, you can disable the emoji key on it. That way, you won’t be able to access them from there. But if you’re looking for a way to completely get rid of Android smiley faces in text messages, then there is no way to achieve that.

How to Disable Emoji Keyboard on Android?

If you hate emojis or just never use them at all, then you’ll be glad to know that there’s a way to remove emoji keyboard in a sense. This way, you won’t find yourself in the emoji menu at all and are likely to never mistakenly drop one in a message. There’s no way to uninstall emoji keyboard Android, but there is a way you can kind of disable it.

With most newer Android devices, the default keyboard you have should be Gboard. So, I will show you how to disable Android smileys if you’re using that. These steps may vary slightly depending on the Android device you have, but these are based on stock Android. It should be a similar procedure to get this done for any device that runs on Android.

 Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Tap on “System.”
  3. Look for “Keyboards & Input” and select that.
  4. Look for the keyboard which you are currently using. In this case, it’s Gboard. Tap on it to open its settings.
  5. Select “Preferences.”
  6. There should be an option for “Show emoji switch key.” Toggle that off.

With that, you will no longer have a dedicated key to access emojis. Instead, you need to hold down the comma key to access them. There’s no way to completely eliminate its presence from the keyboard, but this is a significant difference. If you want to enable emojis on Android for any reason after this, simply toggle the setting on.

How to Clear Recent Emojis List?

But let’s say you do use emojis, but you stay away from some of them. But one day, you accidentally press one of those ones you don’t like. It’ll get stuck in your recent emojis list for some time. That is something many people don’t want.

Well, getting rid of those emojis isn’t tricky. Just follow these steps to clear your recent emojis list. However, please note that this will remove any learning that your keyboard has done of your typing style, such as predictive text or predictive emoji Android.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Tap on “Apps.”
  3. Look for the name of your keyboard, such as Gboard, in the list. Tap on it.
  4. Tap on “Storage.”
  5. Click on “Clear Data” and then “Clear Cache.” This will do the job and clear the recent emoji list immediately.
