How to Turn Up Volume on AirPods
We’ll discuss the controls of both AirPods & AirPods Pro & teach you how to change their volume settings. Regardless of which model you use, this information will come in handy. First, let’s address the most basic ways to change the volume on AirPods. If your iPhone is nearby, use its volume buttons or slider to change the volume level of your AirPods.
If you own the AirPods Pro 2, drag the volume slider that appears on your iPhone’s lock screen. Or use the volume slider in your phone’s Control Center to increase/decrease the volume. You can also use your Apple Watch to control the volume levels of your AirPods. Of course, you’ll need to connect the watch to your AirPods first.
Here’s a helpful video on how to connect your AirPods with your Apple Watch. Once the connection is established, details of what you’re listening to (music, podcasts, etc.) will appear on your iWatch screen. You can use the horizontal volume slider to increase/decrease the volume on this screen.
AirPods Volume Control via Siri
The most convenient way to control the volume of your AirPods (regardless of the model) is via Siri. AirPods are mere earbuds – they also feature tiny mics. You can feed audio commands to Siri via these mics & control your volume settings. First, you’ll need to ensure that your AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad:
- Go to Settings
- Select Bluetooth
- Assess the list of paired devices & locate your AirPods
- Tap on the info icon (on the right side of the AirPods icon)
- Find the option that says ‘Double-Tap on AirPods’
- Select either Right or Left
- Now, you can use your Right or Left AirPod to summon Siri. By touching the Force Sensor on either of your AirPods, you can summon Siri & control your volume settings. Here’s how –
- Double-tap either earbud
- Ask Siri to adjust the volume
Tell Siri to “increase volume” by an exact percentage or to the same ratio. For example, you can tell Siri to increase the volume by 12 percent. Or you can tell it to increase or decrease the volume to 70 percent. If you have the AirPods Pro or some other second-generation AirPods, set one AirPod to activate Siri & do the same.
This trick of using Siri to decrease or increase volume on AirPods works with all models. If you have the “Hey Siri” function set up on your iPhone, you can also use Siri via your phone to control the volume. Just say “Hey Siri” & ask it to adjust the volume. Be careful asking Siri to raise the volume to a specific high percentage. The volume can get painfully loud all at once.
How to Adjust AirPods Pro Volume?
The volume control on AirPods Pro is much easier to figure out. That’s because the newest AirPods Pro (Gen 2) comes with a stem that you can use to turn the volume up/down. For previous AirPods Pro models, use all the steps mentioned above. Those steps apply to all AirPods models.
Accessing Siri is, in fact, much easier on AirPods 2, AirPods Pro, & AirPods Pro (Gen 2). You don’t need to assign double-tap features to your AirPods to activate Siri. It would help if you simply said, “Hey, Siri!” to activate the voice command settings on your AirPods Pro. Bear in mind – your AirPods Pro needs to be connected to your iPhone/iPad for this feature to work.
After that, you can use the same commands mentioned above to direct Siri to raise/lower the volume for you. If you don’t want to use Siri, adjust the volume from your device itself. Place your index finger on the stem of your left/right AirPod Pro. Then, swipe up (increase volume) or down (lower volume) on the Touch control to adjust the volume.
Compared to previous generations of AirPods, increasing volume on AirPods Pro is much easier.
How to Turn Up Volume on AirPods Without Phone?
Can you control the volume on AirPods without using your iPhone? Yes, there are two ways. The first is via Siri, which we’ve discussed before. The second is via your Apple Watch or your MacBook. If either of the two devices is connected to your AirPods, you can use them to adjust your volume settings.
Can You Change Volume on AirPods Without Siri?
Again, yes & there are two ways. First, you can control the audio of your AirPods by adjusting the volume slider on whatever app you’re listening to. You can do the same on your iPhone’s lock screen or control center. You can also use any secondary iOS device to change the volume on your AirPods without using Siri.
Other Ways to Make Your AirPods Louder
Now that we know how to lower volume on AirPods in various ways let’s talk about making these earbuds louder. If your AirPods don’t seem loud enough, here are some easy ways to make them louder:
- Clean your AirPods: Like all earbuds, your AirPods will accumulate earwax the more you use them. So, clean them with toothpicks every few weeks.
- Modify Your Music App’s Volume Settings: Enter the Settings app on your iPhone/tablet. Enter the “Music” section & check whether the EQ is set to “Off.” If yes, tap “Off.” Also, check whether your Volume Limit is set to Off. If not, set it Off.
