Here's what we'll cover:
What’s the average Alexa life expectancy?
It’s hard to put a solid lifespan on tech products because how long they last depend on how you care for them. That would explain why you can pull out a 10-year-old smartphone, and it still turns on!
However, to put an average Alexa life expectancy value down based on how most people take care of their devices, you should expect an Amazon Echo device to last anywhere between 5 to 7 years. So just make sure that you don’t neglect it, and it should definitely serve you to its price tag and more.
Note that you might run into issues with your Echo device, such as the microphone not seeming as sharp as before or it not powering on any longer. Typically, cleaning out the mic grille, and replacing the power supply, can get the Echo device working like new again.
I reckon most people would upgrade to a newer model, especially when their current smart speaker becomes clearly outdated.
How long does Alexa last with a good care?
While there are some components of your Amazon Echo device that you can’t take care of, there are many others that you can. For instance, keeping it clean, allowing proper ventilation, using a stable power supply, and the environment you keep it in, among others.
If you’re wondering how long does Alexa last when you take really good care of it, the answer is simple. As long as it has been out! So many people bought the first generation of devices running on Amazon Alexa. They still have them at home up until now, working perfectly.
So, if you take good care of your Echo devices, nothing stops them from lasting as many as 10 years. Not that I would recommend keeping them that long anyway. At that point, it is probably a very good idea to strongly consider upgrading.
Tips for keeping Alexa alive longer
If you’re looking for handy tips to extend your Alexa life expectancy, I’ve got a bunch for you. By taking good care of your device, you will be able to make sure that it has a long healthy life. Heck, you might even be able to get it to last a decade if you really want.
Keep Alexa away from water
Even with everything becoming waterproofed these days, water is still the enemy of electronic devices. For example, the Amazon Echo devices have no waterproofing, so you want to keep them far away from water and moisture.
This means that the bathroom is not a great place to put your Echo, and neither is it right beside a sink. You can have it in your kitchen, but try and make sure that it is well-spaced from the faucet, so it doesn’t collect splashes.
Clean the Echo device regularly
Cleaning will keep your microphone and speaker clear of any obstructions, which will result in great audio performance. There are different tips you can follow for the cleaning process:
- Use a feather duster to clean off the lighter layers of dust and debris.
- Flip your speaker upside down and tap on the bottom to shake loose pieces.
- Use a wooden or plastic (not metal!) object like a toothpick to clean out creases.
- Use a lint roller to clean the fabric if that’s the kind of Echo you have.
- Use a microfiber cloth that is minimally damp to clean plastic parts.
Make sure that you don’t use compressed air, alcohol, or a lot of water to clean your device, as this can ruin it.
