Nest Changes Temperature on Its Own: Why is that?
Nest thermostat is a smart device. Like many smart home devices, it’s designed to constantly learn about your day-to-day schedule & adjust its settings based on your at-home activities. These automatic settings help the smart device save energy & stabilize your home’s temperature throughout the day.

- Eco-Mode: Nest thermostats come with a feature called “eco-mode.” This feature turns on automatically whenever the thermostat detects no one’s home. When activated, eco-mode forces the thermostat to stay fixed at specific temperature settings. Turning off eco-mode could help you stop your Nest thermostat from changing its temperature settings.
- Home & Away Feature: The Nest thermostat can tell when you’re home or away. The automatic temperature changes could be caused by the device erroneously detecting that you’re not at home.

- Select your desired temperature range
- Click “Done” to complete this process.
Remember: you’ll need your Thermostat’s PIN code to carry out this process. This locking method works on all three Nest Thermostat models: Nest Thermostat, Nest Thermostat E, & Nest Learning Thermostat. How to Keep Nest Thermostat at Constant Temperature?
Locking your thermostat isn’t the only way to keep it at a constant temperature setting. Here are some other ways to keep Nest thermostat at a constant temperature:
Strategy #1. Disable Auto-Schedule
Turn off your Nest thermostat’s auto-scheduling feature. You’ll prevent it from straying away from your desired temperature preferences. You can do that in two ways: via the thermostat itself or the Nest app. I’ll teach you both the techniques:
Option A: Disable Auto-Schedule from Nest Thermostat
- Open the main menu on the thermostat
- Select Settings
- Find & select an option called “Nest Sense”
- Find & select an option titled “Auto-Schedule”
- Select “Off”
Within 5 seconds, Nest will indicate that it’s “Turning Off Auto-Schedule.”
Option B: Disable Auto-Schedule Via the Nest App
- In the Nest app, select your thermostat
- Select Settings
- Find & select the option titled “Auto-Schedule”
- Select “Off”

Strategy #2. Disable Eco Mode
Disabling your thermostat’s eco-mode will prevent it from auto-adjusting its temperature settings when you’re at home. Here are two ways to disable your Nest thermostat’s eco-mode:
Option A: Disable Eco-Mode via the Nest Thermostat
- Open the main menu on your thermostat
- Select Settings
- Find & select an option titled “Home/Away Assist”
- Scroll down this section & find an option titled “Stop Using”
- Select the “Stop Using” option
Once you’ve taken these steps, set the eco-temperature setting to “off.” To do that, take the following steps:
- Open the main menu on your thermostat
- Select Settings
- Select “Eco”
- Set “Cool to” to “Off” & Set “Heat to” to “Off” as well (scroll all the way to the highest & lowest settings)

Option B: Disable Eco Mode via the Nest App
- In the Nest app, select your Thermostat
- Select Settings
- Select Home/Away Assist
- Select “Off”

- Open the main menu on your thermostat
- Select Settings
- Find and select an option titled “Reset”
- Select the option titled “Auto-Schedule”
- Select Reset
