Globally, that puts LG in second place as of 2021, just behind Samsung, which is no particular surprise. But, of course, people love LG TVs because of a good balance between their pricing and the features that you get from them.
LG is also very highly placed with their entries in the smart TV market, which was worth $239 billion as of 2021 and estimated to hit as high as $358.6 billion in 2027. Smart TVs are the future, after all, with how they enable us to connect our TVs to the internet and do cool things, like download apps and stream directly from digital services.
Of course, to take advantage of all the awesome things that you can do with a smart TV, you will need to be able to connect to WiFi. But what if you have an LG TV not connecting to WiFi? Fortunately for you, this is a problem that quite a few people face with their TVs. So I’ve put together this guide to help you get your LG TV’s WiFi working the way that it should.

How to turn on WiFi on LG TV?
If you have an LG smart TV, you can connect it to any wireless network at home. It’s a pretty easy process to connect these televisions to a nearby WiFi network. Once you connect to WiFi, you will be able to do many cool things with your TV.
Follow the steps below to turn on WiFi if your LG TV says WiFi is turned off:
- Press the Settings button on your TV remote. It is the button that has the gear icon on it.
- Select the Network/Connections button from the panel that pops up, typically on the right side, select the Network/Connections button. It looks like a sphere with lines running over it.
- Now, select the Wireless/WiFi Connection entry from the menu on the left side.
- Your TV will search for the nearby WiFi connections, and they should appear in this menu. Select the network that you want to connect to.
- Suppose the WiFi network doesn’t have a password. In that case, you can connect to it simply by navigating over its name and pressing the OK button on the remote. However, if it has a password, you will need to type it in using the onscreen keyboard.
- Once you do this, you will see a checkmark beside the wireless connection’s name, which indicates that your LG smart TV is now connected to it.
You can use other options to connect to a wireless network from the Network/Connections menu. For instance, you can use a WPS PIN or WPS PBC or connect to a hidden network as long as you know both the network name and the password. However, these are generally less-used options.
Why won’t LG TV connect to WiFi?
Have you noticed your LG TV not connecting to WiFi even though you can see the network in the list of available networks? Well, this happens for quite a few reasons.
Here are just a few of them below:
- There are too many devices connected to the WiFi network. Not all WiFi sources can handle hundreds of connections like public ones can. Often, you may find that the source of a wireless connection can only accommodate 5 or 10 connections at a time.
- You may have the wrong time and date set on your WiFi source, which clashes with the internet-based time that your TV gets. You may also need to set your TV to the correct time zone.
- You may be experiencing a bug that prevents you from being able to connect to the network. Bugs like this can be caused by outdated software, or they can just be software issues that pop up out of nowhere.
- The signal may simply be too weak. When your TV can just barely detect a WiFi signal and you try to connect, it may not be able to carry through with the connection process like it normally would. This might appear as the WiFi not connecting.
LG Smart TV not connecting to WiFi: common reasons and fixes
There are several reasons why your LG smart TV might not connect to WiFi normally. There are many different ways that this can manifest. For instance, it might be your LG TV not finding WiFi, or perhaps it continues to disconnect from WiFi repeatedly.
Fortunately, I know why this happens and the fixes you can try out on your LG smart TV to prevent them from happening again.
Too many devices connected
There’s a limit to how many devices can be connected on a single WiFi network. This number is generally lower for routers and hotspots in your home. For instance, an Android phone can typically take only ten devices, and an iPhone can handle only five. However, you shouldn’t have this issue with a home router, as they can usually take devices into the hundreds.
The solution here is to disconnect any devices you don’t currently need. They don’t need to be on the network if they’re not being used.
Wrong date/time
You might not really mind, but it is essential to have the date and time on your electronic devices set accurately, as a wrong date/time can sometimes affect how different devices interact. For instance, this could be your LG smart TV and your router.
Make sure that the date on your TV is accurate. You can do this by going into the General settings menu. You should see the Time & Date entry and set the proper date, time, and time zone here.
QuickStart feature interferes with WiFi
A QuickStart feature on your LG smart TV helps it turn on right away. However, this comes with some downsides, like connectivity problems. You can disable QuickStart, though your TV will turn on slightly slower than usual.
Go into the General settings on the TV. You should find the QuickStart option. Turn it off from here. After you’re done, unplug the TV and plug it back in. This should solve any issues.
Use WPS PIN when LG TV not finding WiFi
When you have an LG TV that doesn’t find your network the usual way, you can use the WPS PIN option to connect to it instead. You will find this PIN on your router, typically on the bottom of the back – wherever the serial number is.
Go into the Settings, and then select network. Next, pick WiFi or Wireless connection and select the “WPS PIN” option. Enter this PIN and press Enter. This can help establish the connection in cases like this.
Software glitches or bugs
Software is very complex and made of many lines of code. So it is not unusual for something to go wrong sometimes, which results in things not working right like your LG TV keeps disconnecting from WiFi or similar. The solution to this is to do a factory reset, mainly when other solutions don’t do the trick.
To do a factory reset, follow these steps:
- Press the Settings button on the remote.
- Go to All Settings.
- Select General.
- Now, near the bottom, you will find Reset to Initial Settings. Select that and enter the TV password. If you never set one, try either 1234 or 0000.
